no brake lights!

There is a difference in the columns due to the location of the ign. switch, for one. But, I think the main difference is in the connector itself.

That turn signal switch (5698520) is for '67 & '68 Corvettes only.  The connection to the harness is semi-circular, while in '69 & up it is straight.  They're not even close.
 
You will find (or already have) that a lot of parts for a '68 are one year only parts.  It's kind of annoying when you see parts that are listed from 69 & up.

If you have to replace the turn signal switch, I hope it comes easier than the 78-82 tilt- telescoping variety. I for one found it to be a very trying experience ( threading the wire harness down through the tunnel Wits%20End) There must be a trick to it Wacko.

Well 'blessed be the '68' for being 'unique'  again!  I've already had my switch 'out and 'in' a couple of times  during the processes of elimination!

Thank's for all the tips though,  now I'm waiting for new parts.

try the neutral safety switch. in the console for automatics on clutch pedal for standard. I had to go thru all the same things you did. when I replaced the switch, I had brake lights.

While I am a firm believer in the "Anything is possible" philosophy, that one just don't make sense(to me). I wonder why the NSS would keep the braking lights from working? Now I'm curious!

Your absolutely right Joel. The NSS has nothing to do with the brake lights not working. My issue was with the back- up lights.  It was causing me to blow  the fuse which in turn caused my turn sigals and brake lights not to work.  My apologies to all .
