My 76 was the source of dinner for Mickey Mouse ..or Minnie..
last winter... and the only gauge that function now is my Speedo.

Actually drove the car that way last summer using an aftermarket
water temp and oil pressure gauge ...But picked up a wiring diagram
and a complete under dash Harness at Carlisle last summer

I have gone over the old exsisting wiring and honestly can not
visually see any damage... I am not a electrical type of guy
and I just now am getting around to getting serious about
fixing it for this summer...

Any hints... ? I can turn a wrench with the best of them
but electrical problems tend to get me in a very grouchy mood
...
I can just replace the entire harness since I now have one
but if someone can tell me where to look for a "short" that
would take out all my dash gauges (the lights in the gauges all
still work) I would appreciate it...

Hey Bob,

I'm not much help as I share your frustration with electrical gremlins. I've learned the hard (and usually costly) way to check fuses, then check for a solid ground, and then recheck the fuses with a meter. Sorry I can't offer more than that and lots of encouragement!

Hi,

IT is unlikely that you need to replace the wiring under the dash. If there is no apparent damage, then all should be well. It seems that you may have a ground problem. Try grounding the small gauge bezel (chrome edge) to the shifter with a jumper wire. If the guages begin working then look for the broken ground under the dash. If this doesn't work, you can check the gauges individually by grounding the associated wire at the sender. Sender goes closer to ground as it operates, so the gauge will peg. The tach can be checked by alternately tapping a 9 volt battery + side to wire and - side to ground with a jumper, the tach will jump a little if the wire is good.

In a Corvette, grounds are king. If you have a problem always check the ground.
