Vette(s): I have a 1980 vette, its my first one and needs alittle work i got a really good deal on it and have big plans for it.
I was driving to lunch today when my car lost all power, i took the air breather off and was getting gas and then i checked for spark and had none, I took the distributor cap off and the cap and rotor were toast!! the rotor was broke and the rotor button in the cap was burnt off. I though for sure i found the problem of no spark. But i replaced them and still no spark. Do any of you think i burnt up the coil????? Ive been around 350sbc for along time and have never ran into this yet.
 Thanks for any help

could be the ignition module. sometimes they go no matter how the cap looks. pulled my 75 out of the garage lastyear and shut it off to go inside before i left and when i came out it wouldn't start. shouldn't be that much to replace it and takes about twenty minutes.

The rotor and the button being burnt off leads me to think the coil is prolly fried, and possibly the ign. module also.
I'd have to suggest replacing the module, coil, cap, and rotor at the same time in this instance.
I'd also recommend checking the plugs, and wires. Too much resistance in the wires, or plugs that have too large a gap will accelerate the damage to the module, and coil. HEI systems are great, but they ain't worry free.

Sounds like the coil to me too. Module probably suffered some damage in that little firworks show too....
