Battery is good. Have power to the dash. But starter won't even click.

I am suspecting the fusible link, just before the solenoid. On the wiring diagram, it is depicted as 14BRN, between the 10R from the Horn Relay Buzzer and the 12R to the solenoid of the starter. How do I know it is fried?

I have 12 volt at the buzzer end, but none at the solenoid end. That is why I am suspecting the fusible link.

Am I supposed to have permanent 12 volt there?

There is no fuse link on the actual wire for the "Start" terminal on the starter solenoid. The fuse link you refer to is battery voltage going TO the horn relay/buzzer, not FROM it. The voltage to crank/operate the starter comes from the ign switch, thru the neutral safety switch/clutch switch, and down to the "S" terminal on the solenoid, on a purple wire. If no crank, check for voltage(battery voltage) on the purple wire while turning the key to the "Start" position. If you get no voltage there, then you need to check the NSS/clutch switch, and ign switch circuits and associated wiring.

To check is a fuse link is good, just measure voltage on both sides of the link...should have voltage on both sides if it is good. It's advisable to wiggle the wiring while checking just to make sure.

Thank you for your quick reply.

I understand there may be differences from one year model to the next. I promise I have a fusible link located a couple inches from the starter solenoid, accessible from underneath the car, of course. I went directly to it because I remembered replacing it 17 or 18 years ago. Measuring either the voltage or the continuity is quite challenging because there is no metal that is accessible to make contact with a multi-meter. The only way to do this is to severe the wire. That what I am hoping not to have to do.

What I see on my car matches the wiring diagram I have for my year model (70-71). However, this fusible link is not shown on other wiring diagrams.

I can locate the safeties (brake and clutch) on the wiring diagrams. I am not sure how they look like nor where exactly they are located in the car.

When you say No start, I take it that you mean the starter is dead when Ignition Key is turned to Start.

If so, could be something else, like a Safety Switch. 12 Ga Purple and Purple/White wires not making contact. They are near the clutch pedal and near the Automatic Tranny Shifter.

But you know your car. 🙂

Thank you Steve. You got it. This is the clutch safety switch. I  can start if I bypass it. So, I guess I need to replace it. However, This is not really easy to access. I am up to a no-fun moment. I an fit both my arms in that space because they are too long (elbow to hand). So, everything I do in that space is with one hand (I already had to replace the grommet and the throttle cable as well as the brake light switch).

I just happened to know a little bit about Safety Switches lately because I just swapped out a TH400 for an M20 in my '73.

I made an Anti-Theft Switch with the Shifter pigtail to the Console wiring.

Push-ON, Push-OFF Switch. Fairly heavy duty.

Cigarette/Cigar ashes gotta go outside now. 😄

And with the Ashtray Door closed, who's the wiser?

🙄 Well, who ever reads this is I guess! 😉

Glad you got yours fixed Christian.👍

Steve
