On our 79 after being driven in the rain, the park lights go on by themselves. I have replaced the light switch but that was not the problem. I think the park cirucit is shorting to a continuous hot feed. Tried pulling fuses to find the circuit, but no single fuse would kill the park lights. Anyone had a similar annoyance?

If the lamps come on in the rain and you're blowing fuses, you've got a short in the parking light circuit which water can get to. I would begin looking for a bare spot where the harness has been able to rub against a body panel, a grill, the radiator support, etc. Good luck.

Hey, Easy Mike
Thanks for the suggestions on this problem. The wierd thing is that no fuses are blowing.
I'll definitely check out the areas you mentioned.
I guess she doesn't like to be driven in the rain, but here on the Oregon Coast that presents
a real challenge.
Best regards, Mike. |smile|

5\16\02 Problem resolved. By wiggling the wiring harness from the firewall forward (just a hunch) I found the park lights would go off intermittently. Long story short, there is an aftermarket alarm system which I believed to be disconnected or just plain dead. The wire from the relay which flashed the park lights when the alarm was set or activated was hot. Where this wire was was tapped into the park light circut next to the left front park light it was attached by a clamp on splicer. The connection here was bad and when wet, it completed the circuit. By cutting the wire, problem has been solved. Now I only need to remove & repair, or replace the alarm system.

In retrospect, I should have used a multimeter or continuity tester to see what wires in the harness were hot and by process of elimination found the wire causing the problem, and traced it to the park circuit.
For future reference, if anyone can think of a simpler process please let me know. Thanks, Mike.
