Does anyone have any experience with the Pertronix ignitor electronic ignition conversion kit. Any cons to this mod?
Thanks

I put one in mine this summer along with a high output coil. Nothing but good things to say about it. Installed easily, you might have to use the included spacers to get the right gap. I noticed a big improvement in overall performance and runs much smoother You'll have two wires coming out of the distributor instead on the stock "one" but it's hidden by the shielding anyway.

I put one in my 68 mustang in about 1995 and it still works great today!
But i put an ignighter 2 and coil in my 73 454 and it lasted about 2 months. I developed a miss and then it got worse
so I turned off the lights in my garage and had the car running and every spark plug was arcing including a wire
that went over the coil on the stud of the coil. This was coming out of my $100.00 reproduction wires, so I called lectric limeted to complain about the wires that were about a year and a month old and a guy went off on me about messing up the ignition system installing the ignighter and coil.
he told me go either totally stock or
performance, and he is not going to replace the wires
Now I am running a set of points and a cheap set of wires and unfortunatly I an going to purchase anothr set of reproduction wires (hope these last longer than a year)

I would not run my hopped up veedubs without one,
on chevys though uuless you want to appear box stock or need to keep the tach drive dizzy on an early c3 just stepping up to an HEI is a hot ticket and if you get the HEI from the bone yard it's cheaper than the conversion too.
On the conversion I once burnt one up, I left the ign on for a few minutes without he engine running and the kit melted down like 3 mile island.

I had an original Pertronix Ignitor give out while driving a couple of years ago. They replaced it and I paid the difference to get the Pertronix II. I have not upgraded the coil or wires and it has performed very well. I did notice that my small block runs smoother -- I really can't say about any other performance improvements. All in all, I'd say it has been a very good modification.
