I have an early 78 with pluse wiper delete.  Can I just add a switch assembly from a 79 with pluse?.    Is the wiring already there for the pluse feature?

I'm not sure, but you might be able to install the stalk switch(turn sig/wiper) AND...you'll definitely need THIS LITTLE JEWEL!!
In the lower, right hand corner of da fuse box, you will see a small circuit board in the "wiper" fuse spot. (Thnx, Mike )
I don't know if the wiring is already there or not, but I think it is.

78 and 79 wiper switches are the same, now in the dash instead of the column. That little circuit board should be there under the dash but plugging that in won't give you delay wipers, you need the "module" mounted on the console kinda under the radio on the driver's side. I believe that little board is just to protect that module. Not sure about your original question but I would think you should be able to use the switch with the dial. But it will not operate the delay feature. Mike

Thanks for clearing that up, Mike! I wasn't aware of a separate "module" on top of the fuse-box insert.

The original question was, can he install the correct, delay type wiper switch, and have the delayed wiper working.
The answer is, obviously no. He will also need the fuse-box circuit board, and the Module in the console area. And of course, the wiper switch itself.

Following up on this, since I'd like to accomplish the same thing as
LeeW78: Mike, can you provide any additional info about the module?
Approximate size, what it looks like, etc.?

If I understand the above correctly, there are two different switches: one
with pulse, one without. Has anybody ever obtained a pulse switch from a
GM dealer or aftermarket supplier?

I have the circuit board, just hanging there waiting to be plugged in. (Joel,
you identified that 'little jewel' for me in another thread a while back).
There's a fuse in that location in the fuse panel now, so does the board
just push in and 'wrap' around that fuse?

I believe the circuit board takes the place of the fuse in the fuse box. There should be a fuse on the circuit board itself, if I remember Mike's explaination from the earlier thread.

There are 2 different wiper switches, the delay switch with the dial is the more readily available, tho. The little circuit board fuse is in one of those inline fuse holders. Page 142 of the 78 AIM gives some detail. The pic is from the 79 service manual, better detail for a pic. Give you an idea of location and looks of the module(had a pic of a module but can't find it).  Mike  

Mike and Joel, I owe you an apology: I should have had the good sense to
go back and check that earlier thread, and some of this would have
already been clear to me. Guess I've just had so much about this shark
cluttering up my mind (or what passes for it anyway!) that I just plain
forgot that you two had covered some of this info in that earlier
exchange.

Now though, thanks to you both, I'm clear on the installation of the circuit
board (out comes the fuse in the panel, in goes the board)...that the
correct 'pulse' switch will have a dial on it (will have to check on whether
ours does or not)...and I'll look for the module inside the console. I have a
sinking feeling that the three severed "mystery wires" I discovered during
my last trip 'down under' the dash on Friday may have been connected to
that module--which I have the sinking feeling has been removed by one
Bubba or another at some previous time.

benefitted from it as well--didn't really mean to hijack his thread so
thoroughly, but I figure maybe future readers of these exchanges will find

Thanks for all the info.  I'll check for the plug-in circuit board and the module under the console.  My car which looks like a 78 pace car is really a 78 black coupe with added parts and a nice looking paint job.  The car was built in November 1977 and was delivered with "Pluse wiper delete" and the non-pluse wiper switch, No arrow on the knob and no electrical pot on the back.  I'm going to order the 79 switch if I have the circuit board and module.  Even if I don't have them I might try to get a set and convert to pluse wipers.  The rain going and coming from Carlisle proved to me that they are really needed.

Hi guys, since you have been talking about pulse wipers, I have a 78 Silver Anniversary in which the pulse doesn't work. I was told a ways back by a Chevy mechanic that the switch is fine but the "pulse module (?)" is burned out and they are no longer available. I believe he told me not to use the pulse feature for fear of shorting/burning out the system. Any info you could share with me on this? Also the Generator light is now on all the time. Alternator needs to be rebuilt/replaced? If I drive it now the battery slowly drains down. Thanks for any help.
