Vette(s): 78 coupe, Dk Brown, ZZ4 385 hp fast burn, steeroid rack/pinion, Keisler 5 speed. Built to run with C5 and C6. on the highway. Can't beat them. But they can't lose me in there mirrors. LOL I built it to enjoy. So far I've tripped through 15 States.

I came back from Bowling Green and my power locks stopped working. I've checked the switches and wires. The 2 ground wires are in good shape. I changed the passenger lock actuator a few months ago. So being the other is 30 years old. I changed it today  and still nothing.  Are the locks connected to the gas tank or something stupid like that.  I've checked the fuse.  Is there a special hand shake or code to fix this???Angry

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
You may not be looking at an actual ground, but it may be acting that way.  The locks use a reverse polarity system.  This diagram is from a newer Vette, I don't have the 78 diag handy, but GM used this basic system for many, many years.

But thanks anyway. Big%20smile  I went to my shop this morning and got my locks working. Clap  Now while I have everything apart, I'm going to change the light switch in the dash. Wink Do you know how to release shaft from the switch. The manual said push and release the retainer. Where is this retainer???Confused Brown782008-06-22 10:38:33

There is a small pushbutton on the side of the headlight switch that releases the knob/rod. It is behind the dash, so you'll need to pull the dash panel away from the dash.
Someone has posted a pic of the switch and pushbutton here before...I'll see if I can find it....

oops! It was I that posted it!
