  I've been driving this car daily for two years now ('82 CE) and I recently discovered a small push/pull switch on the bottom of the dash just below the steering column. It doesn't seem to have any function when I pull or push it and I can't find it in my owner's manual. Can anyone clue me in?

It's the headlight over-ride switch to raise the headlights,without turning them on,with the engine running pull the button down,the lights should raise push it up and they should go down.

Yup...it's da over-ride for the headlights. AS Ron said, with the engine running, it should allow you to raise/lower the headlights without turning them on. It was originally designed to allow the owner to leave them up in freezing weather, so they wouldn't get iced over, and not raise. It also helps when changing the bulbs.
If the lights don't respond to the switch, then the vacuum lines have prolly been disconnected...

Thanks, guys! My headlights are a little slow, and as I quickly activated it several times I probably did not give the vacuum system time to react.

Check for vacumn leaks, this will slow your lights raising.

I seen this question asked on anther forum last year and the guy got nothing but rude (read your manual type) responses from everyone but me!
This is what makes THIS forum so good and so much better than all the others - no butt nuggets here or at least they are behaved!

I should also mention that this other forum threatened to ban ME because I gave the guy the correct answer AND told them all how rude and totally non supportive they are to their fellow Vette people - I never went back there!

You guys and gals here are great! That is why I will soon be your
Hugnext lifer!

Well, there should be no reason for being rude to someone that is asking for help...or being rude to someone that is responding to give someone help.
As I have said before, there is a world of knowledge here, and a great group of people, that are willing to share.

One thing to help the headlights is to WD40 the linkages, get under the car and spray all of the linkages that pop up the headlights.

Becarefull will spraying wd 40 and other oils around the fiberglass areas, specially on the back sides where there is no paint protection. The fiberglasss will absorb the wd40/oils and problems will start with the paint or when repaint.
