This is just a quick one. The radio will pick up a few local stations,(very local) but won't get stations farther away. Now, What puzzles me, is when I had the dash panel out, and the radio, I was going to replace just because of this, it started working and picking up all the stations that is was supposed to. When I had remounted it, it was working fine. I had turned it off turned it on and shut the car off re-fired it turned on and it was working. Now, I'm back to the very local stations again. I really don't want to cut the dash and put in a modern one. But I will if I have to. Any ideas to help me keep this one? You know things like ground wire's, or
a tap with a sledge Hammer?

Forgive me for questioning the obvious but it sounds like a short in the antenna wire or connection. I'm sure you probably covered that base but it's the only thing that makes any sense. We live in the hills so reception is a constant problem. Now,... for me,the exhaust notes are music to my ears so I only consider CDs on long trips. Good luck David.

by any chance does the radio have a switch or button that says local. i
know some older radioes had that feature. may be hitting it by accident
if you do.

(Sigh) No, there's no button to push for local. Also, I tried unplugging the ant. I didn't get squat when I did that, Plugged it back up, and then picked back up the locals. I guess it's radio replacement time.
I do like the sound of the pipes, But I want Good Jammin Vette Music to.

that is where alot of us have gone to ipods, there is a post of great driving music started here awhilt back

Have you tried the ones with the usb port?
There are places that will refurbish your radio, if that is really the problem.
There are also modern radios designed to fit in the slot.
Hopefully, you won't have to cut the dash.
