Vette(s): 1982 Collector Edition, color is silver/beige.
I have rear window defroster switch which has a straight, 4-prong, arrangement. How do you check if it is bad and where can you get another one. Yes, I know is it spring and I do not drive it during the winter. Just curious.....thanks.

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

I don't have the diagram for the plug positions, but I can tell you this:

Ornage black wire is the 30 amp fuse hot at all times

Pink black wire is the 20 amp fuse hot with key on

Purple wire is output to rear defogger

Black wire is the switch ground.

Hope this helps.

If you find you need a new switch, Corvette Central carries them as does most catalog suppliers.

Hate to say it. But the rear window defroster switch in your '82 is different than the '80 and older. My '81 has the 2nd design rectangular switch, the same as on your '82. The indicator light is in the tip of the switch lever. Amber in color.

The 1st design is more square with the indicator light on the body of the switch. I believe the indicator light is green.

Nobody repro's the 2nd design. I've searched high and low. Mine didn't work. I came across one at a swap meet. $75 used. 1yr guarantee. I bought it, and use it very sparingly during the fall. If you find a NOS switch, expect to pay upwards of $200+.

Hope your's works ok!

What you can try to locate that switch is go to a Chevy dealer and have them look up the part number and then do a nationwide computer search of other Chevy dealers' inventories. If they come up with some hits on the inquiry, they can give you a printout of the dealers that have the switch sitting on the shelf.

When I needed a carburetor kick-up solenoid for my '78, it's an obsolete part...no longer available. My local dealer did a search and came up with a list of about a half dozen dealers that still had the part in inventory. I called one and their parts guy was so happy to get rid of the two solenoids gathering dust on his shelf, he sold me both for $20 each when they retailed for $90 each!

Try your local dealer and see if you can do the same. Even a dealer can surprise you every now and then.
