I tried to find in the old forums on relays and fuse's, and no luck.
This is for 79 - L82. Is there a RELAY or FUSE under the hood or dash for the HEADLIGHTS? Switch is fine, every light, etc, on the car works. Everything. Fusible links are fine. Turn signals, flashers, tail lights, parking and side markers, everything inside, all good.
Headlights out. Just happened all at once.
I have the 79 Chevrolet electric trouble shooting manual and schematics. I am just trying a few things before it goes to the $80.00 and hour wrench.
Thanks,
Boatman

The headlights are on a circuit breaker. Sounds like it has gone bad, but don't discount a common ground might be bad.

I don't know where the circuit breaker is located...the schematic may tell where in the line it is and you can follow the wiring to it unless someone else here can tell you where to look.

The circuit breaker is in the light switch itself. Try a new switch, supposedly you can wire it in without actually mounting it in the dash. Just let it hang until you know if it's the problem.
Mike
Also, the headlights are the same switch as the other lights but a seperate line in the switch.

First, identify what you are missing. If you have a voltmeter, check the connector at the light. With the lights on, you should see 12 volts if you measure across the terminals (red lead in one, black lead in the other-do not short the terminals together!). If you do not, there are 2 possible problems: No voltage, or no ground, as mentioned in the previous post. You can measure from the headlight "hot" lead to a different ground, such as the engine block or alternator chassis, to check for power to the lights. If you have power but no ground, look for a loose or broken wire. I just went through this on my mother's car last year.

Fixed Headlights. Thanks to all for input. Problem was the fusible link. Replaced with new type FL, but it works. Spliced in, hooked up battery, held my breath, pulled headlight switch, and success. |thumb| |cool| |saluteflag|
