I have yet to replace my positive battery cable. Before I do, I've thought about the possibility of relocating the battery to the engine compartment. Shorter wire, gets it out of the back and a little more storage space. Has anyone done this? Any tips? Yes, I know I'm transferring some weight to the front, but a road course driver I'm not

I've never heard of anyone doing this, but I see no advantages myself. The main reason(only reason, really) it was put back there to begin with is there was no room for it up front. The "better weight distribution" was just a bonus.

Mid-years? yup...eng. compt.
C4s? Eng. compt.
C5s? get the idea?
So, you gain maybe a square 1/2 foot of storage...and spend a week trying to figure out where/how to move the batt., plus do the wiring shuffle. Call me crazy(I heard that!!
), but it just don't seem like it's worth the effort, IMO...
But...if you do get it figured out, and it works, let us know!!

Can't see any real good reason to move it from where it is???
What Joel said, "where the F*^$ ya gonna put it?" Plus, if you put it in the engine bay, it's gonna get pretty hot and I reckon you're gonna be replacing batteries pretty often.
Hmmm, so I'm not sure if you guys have a favorable opinion on this or not..............
. Well, the battery will stay where GM put it. At least that's where it will go when it goes back in the car.

Replacing the cable w/ the trans & driveshaft inthe car is a Bi###, but not impossible.
If you can, hit the nuts that hold the clamps a couple of times w/ a good penetrant. I snapped one off of mine & I think we snapped 2 on Warbird's car. I used nylock nuts on the small part of the stud that was left without any problems.
Be patient it's quite frustrasting, especially if you're doing it on your back (use jackstands if you do). It might not be so bad if it's on a rack.
p.s. Order new clamps too, they're cheap and you never know what shape yours are in.
