Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
Subject says it all. I'm replacing my Dash. I have
it out of the car now and have everything off of it except the Headlight
switch. I cannot find how to get the knob off of the switch.
It does not seem to want to pull off. I can not find a set screw or anything holding it on. It does not want to come out through the back.
What is the secret? It is a 1982 vette if that makes any difference in how it is installed

Gil,
There is a small round release button on the body of the switch that would be behind the dash pad.
If I remember correctly, hold it down and then pull the switch knob out. If not, push it in then out while holding the switch down.
I can't find my old switch to take a picture for you.
Good luck,
Anthony

Yup...pull the knob out, then mash the little button/pin on the side of the switch, then pull the knob all the way out.
If you have the dash panel off, you should be able to see the small pin/button on the side. Can't remember which side that year would be on, but it is there.

Thanks Guys. Who ever thought of doing it that way?

Need some help on this again. Found the button, pushed the button, button went in, light switch shaft would not come out.
Tried pushing light switch in when button was pushed. Can see and feel the button move when I try to pull the light switch shaft out. But no go on it.
Would really not like to replace the light switch. I can cut the light switch out of the dash as the dash is going to be replaced but that does not solve the problem.
But it may give me better access to the real problem which I think is the switch release button.

Push the release button in, then pull outward on the knob. Then release the button...the button may need to have a little tension released before the shaft will slide past it. It will come out, you just may need to jiggle it a little.

Thank you all. I got the switch shaft off tonight. But whoever came up with that design needs to be shot. Twice!!
Great group of guys some day I will have the Collectors Edition up and running thanks to the many people on this forum and my bother-in-law.
