CAN ANY ONE GIVE ME A HEADS UP ON THE DO'S AND DON'T OF REPLACING A DASH CLOCK SO I DON'T PULL APART A BUNCH OF STUFF THAT I DON'T NEED TO? LOOKS LIKE IT SHOULD BE EASY. HOWEVER, I HAVE THOUGHT THAT BEFORE. THIS IS GOIN INTO A 76. THANKS FOR ANY COMMENTS. MIKE EMAUS

You have to take the center gauge bezel out and take the gauge cover off as well as the printed circuit. It's not all that difficult, just that you have to be careful.
While you have the bezel out, go ahead a replace all the gauge illumination bulbs...they're likely the original bulbs and cheap to replace. The biggest thing is be careful with the printed circuit...it's fragile and can tear easily. It's not inexpensive like the bulbs...over $100 for a replacement.

Remember to disconnect the battery first.
Also, I don't know about a 76, but on my 74, when I replaced the bulbs (as said above), remember that the metal ring of the cluster completes the circuit by being the actual ground, so I you just leave the bulb hanging at the end of the wire and re-connect the battery to do a test run before putting it all back together, those bulbs won't come on unless they are in their respective holes.
While being there, I also cleaned all the connections behind the cluster and re-organize the wires. I don't know if it was factory or from the po, but it was a real mess. You can label your wires if you disconnect all of them, but on mine, you couln'd be wrong when putting it back; every connector was different from one another.
I think you will find it easiest to remove the e-brake console and then the shifter console before attempting to remove the gauge cluster. The cluster is extremely fragile, especially in the corners near the top where it turns out. I installed a quartz conversion kit in my clock, it worked out very well and keeps perfect time. The original face and hands are re-used.
