Do they still run out of steam with the door open? When I first had my vette, the windows would close fine with the door open, but with it shut, they only went up to about a couple of inches from the top. Trouble was, they needed a bit of adjustment as they were rubbing too hard on the seals at the top. I can't lie to you, adjusting them was a complete pain in the a*se!
I've actually had both doors completely apart since then, and removed and cleaned the runners that the window rolls in. This and a bit of adjustment improved the speed a lot, since 20+ years of old grease in the runners doesn't exactly help. The Haynes manual gives quite good details on taking the doors apart, and adjusting the fit afterwards. Just give yourself a day per window, 'cos you're gonna end up swearing at them! It's well rewarding once you've got it all back together again though! Good luck!

Oh, just another thought that would involve less skinned knuckles -you could try a little silicon oil on the rubbers, this might lubricate things a bit... But be careful, make sure whatever you use is ok on rubber and be aware that it might reduce the sealing ability of the rubbers. I've actually used some of what we call "back to black" in the UK, its supposed to be for spryaing on bits of plastic trim to make them nice and shiny again - I'm sure you know what I mean. I'm not saying this would be the best thing, just the closest at hand when I needed it!

I know that Mark (Mark72LS5) had done a lot of work on the doors/windows of his '72 coupe. If I remember correctly he posted some detail steps on how to refurbish and adjust the windows in the Body or Interior forum (I think). It was quite a while ago so the Search function won't find it ('cause it only goes back in time 90 days). If you can't find it by stepping through the posts, drop him an e-mail and I'm sure that he'll share his experience/expertise/wisdom with you.

Mine used to work fine. However, both of them stop about 1.5" from the top now. I think it is because the door panels aren't on the car and they try to come too far inboard and hit the rubber instead of going next to it. Drivers side went up another 1.25" when held further out by hand, but still wouldn't close all the way with the door closed. Moral of the story is, don't run a perfectly good Corvette Door into the wall! LOL Just kidding. weatherstripping and door panels theoretically keep everything where its supposed to go!
