I got the door panel off the '80 and removed that metal panel to expose the window motor. Windows go down fine but need some help on the way up. Kinda a pain to open door, grab top of glass with left hand, push window switch with right hand and stay on the right side of the road at the same time. Any ideas on how to lube things up in there so the motor ain't trying to work so hard.
Also the power locks are totally dead. Where might I begin to check on that one?
Thanks, Jeff

On the windows Id lube anything that moved with some white lithium grease to see if it helped before tearing into mechanicals.  Since both door locks are dead it may be the power to the entire lock system but Ive had trouble in the past with the door connectors.  I pulled the connectors off of the swith back on the door panels and used a wire brush to remove corrosion  from the male part of the connector and contact cleaner on the connector plug.  Ive also had to "rebuild" the female part on mydrivers door by taking it apart and resoldering the wires  then reassembling the plastic connector.  If I remembre correctly, a bad connector on one door killed both locks... but its been a while.

Jeff, it could just be that 30 years of up and down have made the motors tired. I had both by doors apart, cleaned and relubed all the tracks and moving parts, and they still do exactly what you describe. On the locks, see if to are getting power to the switch on the drivers door. My pigtail came apart and killed both sides of the car. Didn't know it until I took off the door panel and the plastic block popped apart.

Good luck!

I think I got this one worked out. Oiled everything, just like the tin man, that pivots and greased the tracks and both windows go back up nicely now.
Also lubed everything related to the power locks, cleaned the connector pins and gave them a dab of dielectric grease and the locks appear to be coming back to life.Thumbs Up
I love this crap, I'm gonna quit my real job.Confused

Hey Jeff, my locks were not working at all, I lubed all the linkages and replaced the switches and the harness that plugs into the back of the switch. The wires and connections were so corroded that they could not carry the current needed. Once I replaced them they work like a charm. I even installed an alarm with a keyless remote.
Have fun,
Dave
