Topic: Spark Plug Wires

I put MSD's on over the valve covers, but I'm almost sure I still have the original GM wires for my '79. I will look for them and measure same and get back to you. I'm under the belief that a '76 and a '79 would be the same.

Dave is correct in thinking the wires from a '79 will be the same length as a '76. I'm pretty sure all small blocks were the same. The only diff. is HEI or point type.

The regular points type has a female terminal, where the wire fits down inside the cap terminal.
The only diff. in the wires, therefore, is the configuration of the ends that go on the cap.
As to using the Delco wires with your ign. system, you should be OK. It's better to use a larger(diam.) wire with a high-output system, but it's not absolutely necessary. The larger diam. wires are capable of handling more voltage without "leaking"(jumping spark to ground or cross-firing).

btw...darrdco, I assume you're asking about the length of orig. type wires installed in the orig. type shielding, under the engine?

darrdco, Here is what I came up with according to my measuring stick.
1 @53"- 1@42"- 1@22-1@28" / this was one bank, I believe it is the 1/3/5/7 side.
1@54" - 1@44" 1@28"- 1@26" / this was the other bank, the 2/4/6/8 side.
These wires are original Delco and run under the exhaust manifold for the front two cylinders on each bank. Hope this helps.

Dave;
This is a great help and exactly what I was looking for...
Thanks for the measurements and your efforts, you went the extra mile.
