I just got new plug wires and was wondering where the two front wires on each side were susposed to be routed. Mine now are just nylon tied together running under the engine. Thanks for any help..

The factory has shields that hold them against the block, so they don't hit the exhaust pipes. I had or still have a pair, if I can find them I'll post it and give them to ya for nutin. I have headers with over the valve cover plug wires.

Longhorn,

I'm not sure about a '71,,,,,,,,,But the front 2 go through a "V" shaped wire shield and then between motor mount & the engine on my '68.

If you don't have the shields, you can find pictures of them in any Vette parts catalog.

Thanks Dave. I put them in today and I didn't see nutin' like that under there. Good news is, it will actually rev over 3500 now without falling on its face Thanks to you too, Anthony. Hopefully Dave can find his old ones.

'Vettes have had these "boomerang" shields for many years, They are indeed needed to keep the wires from getting scorched from the exhaust, and also, they are part of the shielding for radio interference(?), and, it helps keep then from getting damaged. Highly recommended that they be there! I'm sure they were removed because of the difficulty of replacing the wires at some time in the past.
I've also got a "spare" set in the garage, just in case!

Behind the boomerang shields there is a clip on each side that holds the wires at the bottom. The clips are attached to the engine block using one of the oil pan bolts on each side.

Edit" Adams Apple posted the same time I did. Those clips are in his picture, the 2 little black thingys at the bottom.

I have the four peices on top in AA's post. They are the shields for the boots. I just installed them last week. I'm not familiar with the two on the bottom though.
