Hey guys,

I have to replace the speedo cable for the '77. This is confusing. Its a TH-350 3SPD (auto), and this car does have cruise control. But there are so many cable options I am lost?

1969-1982 SPEEDO UPPER & TACH CABLE - 23"  213005  16.95 EACH

1969-1977 SPEEDOMETER CABLE - 72" 4 SPEED 1 PCS  213050  21.95 EACH

1969-1977 SPEEDOMETER CABLE - AUTOMATIC LOWER 24"  213061  26.95 EACH

1969-1977 SPEEDOMETER CABLE - AUTOMATIC UPPER 42"  213060  17.95 EACH

1977-1982 SPEEDOMETER CABLE - LOWER WITH CRUISE CONTROL 49"  213075  20.95 EACH

Upper, Lower? Whats the differance? Which  one?

Thanks guys,

-Louis

I could be wrong here, but I think that upper is tach and lower is speedo.  I just replaced mine on an auto-74.  I don't understand what the cruise has to do with it.  Looks like you need item #3 or #5 of your list.

When connecting to the back of your speedo, take your time and do not force any items out.  You will have to drop the steering wheel (mounting/retaining bracket at the bottom with 2 big bolts).  If you can remove the top dash panel, (which I did), I was able to wrap my hands around and use both of them to reach the cable; it makes it that much easier.

I have actually seen pictures of a guy (in some Vette magazine within the past 3 months) who could reach it from under without removing anything.!!!  Beats me!

Also, be carefull with that firewall bushing, if it is a little dry, be carefull not to break it.

If you can remove your current one now, just measure the length of it and compare with your list above.  There's a big difference in length when you have cruise control (25" more).  If you remove yours before ordering, it should become obvious of which one to order.

The cruiz control system take two cables, an upper, and a lower. The lower goes from the trans to the cruiz 'transducer', on the fenderwell, and then the upper goes from the transducer to the speedo head inside.
Do you have either of the old cables? That would make it easy,; just measure them and get new one the same length. If you want to eliminate the cruiz, you need to get a regular cable for one without cruiz, and run it straight to the speedo head. Be aware, tho, the transducer usually also changes ratios, so if you eliminate it, the speedo might not read correctly, but you can change the speedo gears in the trans to fix it.
The cruiz lower cable will have a screw on cap on both ends, where the non-cruiz set-up has a screw on cap on the bottom, only. Adams' Apple38550.5862731481

Another tip, chances are that your transducer is taking a sh--,when they do ,they bind up,and eat the plastic end off of the speedo cable just for laughs pull the transducer off and see if it is bound up,or if the end of the cable is broken off inside it.if so rebuilt ones are around $100.00,replace it then replace the cable,
