Single wire with small lug gose onthe stud closes to block. The car acts like the battery is low(clicking sound).I did the old school alt check dissconnected battery car kept running .I am taking the battery to have it checked tonight. If all of these ok any sugguestion were to look next?

Just got back, battery tested ok I think it may be a wiring problem.

Did you replace the solenoid with the starter? If not, that is a good bet. Check that the connections are clean and tight. Did you replace the starter because you already had this problem, or did it start since you replaced it? If you already had this problem check battery cables and grounds. Since you were able to do the alternator check, it must start, at least sometimes. What is different when it starts? Does it help if you jump the battery? That could mean a bad internal connection in the battery.

The solenoid came with the new starter,I had the battery checked and they said it was ok.I disconected the conections and re conected them. The next thing I plan to do is check the condition of all the wires going to the starter to see if any are frayed. It will start fine sometimes ,and I have to use my hot shot box(it starts but it tring hard to do so this way.)The headers cooked the other starter.

A new starter that clicks does so due to low voltage to the starter. Jumping the car confirms this. This could be a battery problem, or a battery cable, or a connection. Don't forget the ground connection. An easy one to overlook is the cable from the engine to the frame near the right motor mount. I suspect a weak battery due to the fact that it will start with a jump.

NEVER NEVER NEVER disconnect a battery on a running car. The old farts said this was a way to check the charging system. And it was. If the car kept running, the charging system was okay.
The problem is that test only told you if there was enough amps to keep the car running. It did not tell you the system was working properly.
Now for the REAL problem. Disconnecting a battery when the engine is running will create a voltage spike. Sometimes the spike is not a problem. If a car has no electronics at all, there is no problem. But in 74 we got electronic regulators. In 75 we got electronic ignition, some had electronic ignition before then. Radio have been electronic from mid 60s. The voltage spike can kill electronic components. You could damage one item, or every electronic component in the car!
Granted most of the time nothing will happen. Perhaps only 1 in 100 times will cause a problem. The question is, when is it your turn? As Clint Eastwood asked "Feeling lucky?"

My wiring was in bad shape, bought a new engine harness not knowing it didn't have the starter harness with it doh! Anyways it was fairly cheap for the starter wiring if you go that route. Nice to get rid of all the bubba splices and connectors that had been added over the years.
Wouldn't the click'n be a sign that the solenoid's working? Could it be the starter? Just a thought, if it's cranking when you jump it, it still might be a fault in the starter that's deciding to work with the extra juice aplpied.
Well Ken you hit the nail on the head bad battery, again the parts store guy screwed
up!I had the battery checked last night and the guy said it was ok. Iknow it's been a long time sense I worked on cars, however I checked everything in the elect sys and checked again. So on your advice I had the battery rechecked.(It was bad!)Well one more thing is off my list and I learned something new (Don't disconnect the battery on a 74 and newer cars) AGAIN THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR YOU INPUT
