I have four wires that go on starter motor. Two are tied together, are fusable link and I think go to large stud. the third has the same size connector as the two I just mentioned(big enough for a 3/8 bolt). Then there is the fouth and final wire, which must go to one of the smaller studs on starter. The electrical diagrams are way over my head which is why I'm looking for some help. Thanks

Mikeee....nobody seems to be helping you with this yet, so maybe I can help a little... on my 72 the red wire goes on the large terminal with the battery cable, purple wire goes to the "S" side of the solenoid, on my 72 that is the small post closest to the block, the yellow wire goes on the "R" post wich is the one closest to the passenger fender side of the solenoid. On my 72 I also have a black ground wire that bolts to the block close to the starter. Hope this helps. I am not an expert by any means.

Lonnie is right, with one exception... The '77 wouldn't have the yellow "R" wire, since that is used for 12v supply to the ign coil while cranking...only used on the point-type ignition systems.
The purple wire, which is the one with the smaller eyelet terminal, does go to the inside, smaller terminal of the solenoid, marked "S". The purple wire always goes to the terminal closest to the engine block.
Your smaller wire goes to the inside terminal...
