Greetings!
I have run into an issue with my 1973 model that I was hoping I could run past you folks for a bit of guidance.
Sometimes after driving my vette for an indefinate period of time and then killing the engine I cannot get the car to start again. After having shutoff the ignition I turn the key and nothing happens. It doesnt even click like it would with a weak battery. After a short period of time though, the car will then start when the key is turned.
Could this be a heat issue with the starter? I has just recently started to happen.
Thank you for your time and any pointers that you can give.
Jim

I fought this same problem for a long time. First I thought it was the starter solenoid and changed it out. No change. I figured it must a heat issue from the exhaust. I installed a heat shield for the starter and solenoid. No change. Finally I changed the starter motor itself and 'bingo' no more problems. I kept the heat shield in place.
Good luck..

Good luck..

I also had this exact issue last year. Dead cold was no problem -- it would only do it after I had the engine pretty hot. After a few weeks of inconsistent "warm" starts, my starter just completely gave out. The problem totally disappeared as soon as I had the new starter put in. I'd plan on that repair sometime soon if I were you!
PS - I'd recommend dealing with it before you get stuck somewhere & need a flatbed (like I did). Kind of increases the "moneypit" contribution!
