The wipers on my 80 are beginning to die, when set to "intermittent"...
See if anyone recognises these symptoms:
They work fine on "normal" and "high", but when I leave them on intermittent for more than about 10 minutes, they start to judder and stall as they move across the screen. At the same time, theres a clicking noise from inside the motor housing.
I've had the cover off, and cleaned whatever contacts I could see, but the problems still there. There's a relay unit inside the case, which i assume is the culprit.
The fact that it takes a while for the problem to appear seems to suggest that the problem is something heating up that shouldnt be, otherwise, the problem might be apparent from the outset?
Has anyone had (and fixed!) this type of problem? With the megabucks price of a new motor, i'm hoping someone can tell me where to buy internal parts for these things, or is replacement the only option?

I think that there is a wiper control box in the storage box behind the drivers seat, although it has been twenty years since I messed with an '80 and my memory is not so good. Check there first. Your assumption of a heat problem would be my first guess as well.

Yeah, i located that one not too long ago. I assumed the fact that the relay contacts in the motor itself were clicking meant that the problem may have been up there too..
But it's feasible that the circuitry in the controller is dodgy and its not feeding what it should be to the motor. The plot thickens..!
I just love electrical problems. (Good old British sarcasm)

Sounds like the relay in the rear box may be the culprit. I have (that's had, as they have now stopped altogether!
) a siomilar problem in my '78. The relay is different, but the symptoms soiund much the same. I understands that the wiring to the relay in the rar box can esily be damaged.
I also gather that the '80 relay may be available, unlike the '78 version
Good luck!
Regards
Stephen

Hey another UK vette owner!
I knew there were a few on here, but never read any posts...
I'm going to have that relay out of the jack box in an idle moment, do you know if any of the internal elctronics are fixable?
Failing that, you reckon the 80 relays are still available.. where from in the UK?
I guess you must be fairly close to Claremont Corvette, judging by the Kent address.. ever used them before?
I've had my vette for about 9 months now, and not (touch wood) needed any parts as yet. But i'd be interested to know if and how you normally get bits for yours? I guess shipping's the big killer? Any wise words?
