Its under the dash just below the steering wheel and the knob faces straight down. It is a round black knob a little smaller than a quarter and it has two basic positions when you twist it. It seems to be factory, but I'm not sure. There are also two "pins" on either side of the switch. At this point the car does not run and there is no battery in it.

That is the windshield wiper over-ride switch. It allows you to stop the wipers in mid-sweep, so you can change the wiper blades.
The two other small push/pull switches are for the headlight over-ride, and the wiper door over-ride.
The headlight over-ride lets you raise the headlights without having to turn the light switch on. It was originally designed so the lights could be kept up in cold/icy weather, and they wouldn't get frozen closed.
The same thing with the wiper door over-ride. It allows you to raise the wiper door in icy weather, so it doesn't freeze shut.

This numbskull for one, and others like me. My '74 and my '80 were my daily drivers for a looonnnnggggg time. Those two girls have been driven in all kinds of weather. Sometimes it's a have-to case for DDs.
