Vette(s): 1972 Stingray coupe, numbers matching, all original unrestored (except has been repainted Mille Miglia red instead of Warbonnet Yellow), 72372 miles, base motor, automatic w/ factory air.
Is there an easy way to lube the tach cable from the distributor side without getting into the cluster?

You can remove the cable pretty easily by reaching up behind the tach and pressing the release clamp. I found it even better if you can have someone (#1 son) pulling the cable slightly from the engine compartment while pressing the clamp.

To answer your questions, is there an easy way, I don’t know of one other that the obvious spray WD40 into the cable, may work for a short while, but not a long term solution. The cable WILL come out of the housing, but unfortunately, it’s from the other end if that’s what you were thinking…

For the minimum cost, I just replaced mine and works nice and smooth like it’s suppose too!

Hope that helps, good luck,
Steve

Vette(s): 1968 LeMans Blue convertible / 4 speed / with a 1969 350/350hp engine,factory sidepipes, I added a AM/FM AC Delco 8 trax for feel THE 68 IS SOLD AND NOW I HAVE A '97 C-5 / 6 speed HELL OF A VETTE !!!!
I bought a speedo/tach cable lubricator from Mid America for $15 or $16. It threads on to the tach or trany end but you still have to remove them from the gauge. It stopped the jumping of the needle.
