I just drop my gas tank and it looks like a good time to replace the rear end wiring. Is this a job that I could do? I see that the wires run in to the back of the vette. Do i have to pull up the back carpet to get things connected? What does it take to do this job?

The rear harness does indeed run thru the driver side rear of the bulkhead. It then connects to the main harness, which, on my '74, is on the driver side kick panel area.
The harness will include all of the rear compartment wiring, also, such as the rear courtesy lamp, seat belt wiring, alarm switches(if equipped)etc. Yours will also have the fiber-optic stuff.
Plan on it taking the better part of a weekend to do.

No I am not having trouble with it but sense the gas tank was out and it looks like I have more room room to replace it. The wiring looks old and brittle My plan is to replace all the wiring in the car. I have found so much wrong with BUUBY's wiring job nothing looks right.
Up to you, but if the rear harness wasn't giving me any trouble, I'd leave the original installed and keep the cost of a replacement harness in my pocket.
FWIW: While you're under there, might as well clean the frame attachment point and ensure the harness has a good ground on the frame.
