Just got the 72 home - Temp guage not working - Repaired connection to block sensor. Still no reading
What next - replace the sensor or can I electrically check the wire from guage to sensor or test the gauge ?
Thanks for the advise

You can use a continuity tester to send current though the wire from sensor to the guage. Your connection repair may have grounded out or maybe not as good a connection as you thought.
If your guage was working OK before the connection repair, it doesn't sound likely the guage would suddenly go bad. How about the other guages? They run through the same fuse...make sure the fuse isn't bad.

All other gauges work.
Temp didn't work before I changed the connection
One stand of the wire was inserted in sensor's tab hole - so I spliced in a female connector .
However the connector isn't insulated . I'll try insulating bfore anything else
Thanks

Kennels - tried your advise - I grounded the sensor lead wire -twice and each time got full reading on guage - Does this then mean that the lead wire and guage are OK ? and the sensor is bad? - If so will any 350 sensor work or does it have to be a specific one for vettes and where do I find the item?
Thanks a bunch The previous owner was a cut and tape man when it came to wires - I got alot more to go
Thanks to all

It sounds like your guage is OK since it has full sweep when grounded. You should be able to get a sending unit at most auto parts stores for your car (Pep Boys, Auto Zone, NAPA, etc.). It likely fits just about any small block Chevy with a guage rather than a warning light.
