As I've said before, I know my limitations and every day it becomes more evident to me that they are indeed growing in numbers!

That being said, as I was searching for my wandering horns(see other post), I found these two wires at the nose, not connected to anything and tied in a knot around a harness. I followed them to the engine compartment.  They're along the inside driver fender wall near the alt.  They are solid red and solid black.

Thanks, Dave

Vette(s): 1982 C3 Collectors Edition 44000 miles, sat in the sun most of its life, My wife purchased it for me for Father's Day in 2007 from her girlfriend that had it for 19 years. It is on the road again. I'm retired but it is now my daily driver.
If no one comes up with an answer before tomorrow I will be under the hood of my 82 on Saturday and will take a look to see what I can find.

Thanks Gil.  No rush, still getting the car road worthy.  When I was using the car as an almost daily driver evrything was working fine except for the anti-theft.  If I was to take a guess that would be my best.

They could be for the under hood light. If you had one, it would be by the hood support on the hood. Some one probably cut it out.

The hood light does use a red and black wire, but...the pic shows the red wire with a fuse link in it....very unusual, and the wiring diagram does not show the hood light having a fuse link. There is a fuse link in the red wire going to the alternator....
Hmmm...I'd say it is for the hood light, too, but not sure why there is a fuse link.

Holy cow, am I really starting to understand these wiring diagrams? Big smile  I thought it was for the under hood light, currently missing on my hood, but I couldn't find the fuse link in the diagram so figured it must be something else.  I'll put a volt meter on it and check it out.

Thanks very much!

Thanks Bob! I looked, and I find the fuse link in the '79 wiring diagram, but not in the '80-'81...weird! Guess that answers the question! The light was prolly cut out because they had a tendency to stay on all the time.

the picture comes from the electrical trouble shooting manual, I have one for my 77 that was from the 80 their are a must for electrical chks they give each circuit separate and with a description of flow and component location. I got mine at a used book store. trying to follow the basic diagram for people not using diagrams can be intimidating.

Photo of the Under hood Light connection on my 81.
I leave the wiring disconnected and tucked away.
