I removed the center console to take a look at the heater controls. Just in front of the shifter is a metal mounting plate. On the right side is a flasher and on the left side is some sort of relay. My question is about this relay. Anyone know what it is? When I connect the battery, it clicks, and with a battery charger on...I get the 60 cycle hum through the relay. By watching the amp meter on the charger, I think this is the sourse of my power drain. But, I dont know what it is to trouble shoot. If anyone knows, I would like the help. Also, anyone every work on the heater controls? Mine was not working at all. I took mine apart (not real hard) and cleaned all the MUNG from the controls and all the contacts. Now, the MAX AC position works great, but nothing else does. Any ideas?

Ron the power window relay and the anti theft relay are under the console plate.Anti theft orange wire and a yellow wire.Power window relay pink/black wire, black/orange wire and red/white.Going into the top of the heater a.c. plenum box which is on the engine side of the firewall is a plug with several wires.Un plug it and clean it.It might get your low speeds running .I am not the greatest on electrical. Hope this is of some help help. Chuck

OK I have a question. My 1982 originally had a rear window defroster. The back glass is still in place but the console switch is not there. Someone purchased a new console plate and minus the cut out for the switch. I can't find a replacement switch in the catalogs (Disc) so I'm looking for a used one. Of course I don't know if it will work if I replace it and I don't know what I'm looking for in the second place. Also the heat/ac controller appears to be new but there is no backlight at night. I have ordered the bulb. Any words of wisdom from anyone after I remove the plate and start looking around?

Hey Grego. If an 82 is like a 77, the "backlight" for the heater controls actually comes from above the gage face. There is a little protrusion that has a light in it that shines down on the heater controls. As far as the switch goes for the rear window de fogger, Ecklers has the switches and the console plate. 1-800-327-4868. Hope that helps.

Power window relay is my guess. Get the AIM for your year. The AIM has good illustrations (and part numbers) of what you're looking at and where everything goes.
