Hi there fellow C3ers,
I finally got my underhood light working after many thread and schematic look-sees.
All it needed was a ground strap and now it works great.
My question is: When the hood is open and the light is on will it go out after
a certain length of time by itself???? I cannot find any info that says it is on
some sort of a timer like the interior courtesy lights.
I appreciate all manner of help and or comments.
thanx

I beleive the under hood lite has a mercury switch inside they go on when the hood is open then go off when the hood is closed. someone will verify I hope

Yup...works on a mercury switch. Hood up= light on...hood down= light off. There is no timer, but you can pull the fuse, or dis-connect the wires to turn the light off if the hood is going to be up for long periods of time, such as at a car show. There are also aftermarket toggle switches made for controlling the light. They just plug in, and you can flip the light switch on/off as you see fit. Of course, you could also just get your own toggle switch, and make one yourself...

That is what I bought for mine - a plug and play harness, no wire cutting needed and it works great.
This was actually one of my first problems when I got my 82; battery dieing and someone on a forum said check your hood light......
