Been checking past forums, but have not found a similar issue.

1978

Key is out of car, and will happen and then stop and then happen again. But my Warning sound alarm goes ON. It is the steady noise you get when you are first starting up your car, or if you leave your lights on.

It can go days without happening and then there it is, funny thing is I never touch the car, just comes and goes. Also might happen more when it is colder outside.

Anyone seen this issue? It has got me puzzled, thanks.

Are ya talkin about the security alarm out side the car,or the key in ignition and headlights on alarm inside the car?

This could possibly be the contacts on the ignition cylinder, where the key goes. They sometimes can stick and cause this. The contacts are pretty thin pieces of brass, so it's conceivable that they could be contracting when it's colder.
It could also be the "buzzer" itself shorting, or sticking.
Try running the key in & out of the cylinder a few times quickly, and see if that helps any.

You might also find the key contacts on the cylinder are loose in the plastic mount, but this would require removal of the steering wheel/hub to get to it to check. Just a thought...

Alarm inside the car,

Thanks for the info, sounds very possible. Where is the buzzer located? is it up unber the dash and connected to the fuzz box?

I sometimes try starting the car and then shutting it off, sometimes works and sometimes does not. Either way thanks for the info, sounds like you are dead on.

Not sure where it would be on a '78, but my '74 is on TOP of the tach, behind the dash!

STINGRAYBS, your problem is one of the pin switches(doors or hood) is stuck/grounded, the alarm relay is stuck, or the flasher for the alarm is bad.
Alarm inside the car,  Where is the buzzer located? is it up unber the dash and connected to the fuzz box?
It's attached to the right side of the fuse panel. In the pic linked you can just make out the speaker to the right behind the yellow wire.  Mike

Thanks mkapp7879

I just took a look and as soon as I touched one of the wires it stopped.
Looks like it is the connecter going to the horn.

Thanks Adams for the tip. I think the switches are good so it must be the relay. Now if i can just find the relay.Tongue
