Weird 12V Brake Ques...

Vette(s): 1978 vette with an 80-82 stlye rear end molded in. BW six speed & an L82... for now. Lowered with VBP springs and bilsteins. Polished torq thrust wheels. New paint, audio system, aluminum radiator... Flowmaster and extreme flow exhaust components.
OK, as some of you know I have a 6 speed from a camaro in my '78 C3. That trans. has a reverse lockout actuator, basically it won't allow you to shift into reverse untill it sees 12 volts. I've decided to hook this up to the brake lights, that way I can step on the clutch, step on the bake and go into reverse, with no big oops on the highway. |laugh| Anyways, I took out my multimeter yesterday only to find that the switch that attaches to the brake pedal shows 12V constantly untill it is depressed, then it shows 0V |headscratch| I don't want to have to run a wire from the back of the car all the way to the inside of the cab, not professional. So does anyone know where I can steal a signal from under the dash that shows 12V when I'm stepping on the brake pedal and 0V when I'm not? Thanks -Adam |bouncy|

I have 2 possible answers to your problem. One is to grab the 12 volt line feeding the brake lights, which is already under the car (no vehicle penetration necesary here) and feed your relay. May be tricky to find, though, without going all the way to the back of the car. Option 2 is to add a relay under your dash to take the existing inputs and give you the desired output. Cost would probably be under 20 bucks if you had to buy everything. Not hard to do if you are handy with a voltmeter. If you want further instruction on the relay, let me know.
