I'm new to C3VR and trying to redo an 82 CE that someone else started and is  no longer with us to help.  I have a few wires that I'm not sure where they go or what they do.

I have two black wires with large eyelets hanging down from under the front headlight area on both sides.  I think these go to the horn mounts as the main grounds but I think the horns are missing as I can not find them.  Anyone have a picture or something showing where they are located?  Does this sound right.

I also have two other wires in this same area on the drivers side.  One is a single black wire with a connector attached.  The other is a black with red or orange stripe that looks like someone has stripped the wire back.  I think this wire goes to the hood vent solenoid but I know that is missing on my car (not planning on using anyway).  Have no idea about the other wire.

The other wires are a three wire connector that is under the dash and looks like it attaches to something in the sterring column.  The wires are blue-green-brown w/white stripe.  Someone has attached (melted) a different type of connector to it that has wires heading into the steering column.  For what it is worth the color of these wires are black-blue-brown.  These wires have been cut and I have not taken the column apart yet to see where they are going.  I'm assuming the horn since I am also missing some parts off of it as well.

I have downloaded some wiring diagrams and have a GM shop manual but have never been very good at wiring diagrams.  I'm looking for the easy way out.

Thanks for the help - JD

Skinnin an armored dilly? In THIS cold weather? Not a chance!
Any large black with with an eyelet is a ground. The horn(s) are mounted up under the nose of the car, between the headlights. You should be able to see them with the hood open, but...if your car doesn't have the horns, you won't see them. Perhaps someone here has a pic of the area to show them. The wire(s) for the horn(s) will be green, btw.
I'd have to take a peek at the wiring diagrams for the other stuff....

The wire going up to the hood door from the solenoid is Black with an Orange stripe. The single black wire there might be the ground for the hood door...I'm not sure. Pics of these wires and connectors would certainly help...

Dark blue or light blue?

Hi Jeff
I have a 82CE that is almost original and close to being but together.  Would be if I just kept my hands off of it.  I will go out and take some pictures for you if you still need them.  As you may have found out CE parts are sometimes difficult to get.  I have a local guy that has parted out (rebuilds them if they are rebuildable) two CE over the last ten years so he may have some of the hard to get parts.

Bob...do you have the Service Manual on a CD or something? We can always count on you to have a nice, clear pic of whatever it is we are talking about! Thanks!!

Thanks Bob - I think my horns are no longer there.  I'll have to look around this weekend some more and take a couple pictures.  I'm not sure because I haven't seen any other loose wires yet.

Gilbert - Could you take a picture of what is in the front of yours so I can compare.  Like is said earlier, I'm trying to finish this after a friend started it and then passed away suddenly.  I'm sure I will have more questions of things that might be missing down the road.  The parts source sounds interesting.

I'm going to try and take a couple pictures of the other wires this weekend (only get to work on her then) and post.

Thanks everyone - I posted these same questions on a couple other forums and hardly go any response.  Looks like I have found the right home. Thumbs Up

Is there a crossfire expert on the forum?

I did the same thing shopping around the different forum.  While there are other forums for CE's they are not all that active.  This is the only one I go on and paid to be a lifer with.

I have had a cold all week I will get you some pictures (yes ebo even guys in sunny California get colds).   But we still can drive our cars year around.

Back to topic.  I will takes some pictures tomorrow early and post them.

The horn on an 82CE according to the assembly drawings I have is not in the center between the lights as it is in the above drawing.  It is somewhere on the left side.  I cannot tell by what I have so far if it is up by the lights or in the engine compartment or even in the front wheel well.  It is in front left.   Unfortunately my horns do not work or I would just honk them until I found it.  I do have a friend in town that I can have do that if I need too.

I'm not going to post the pictures I took as they are of little use in finding your horn.  It is definitely not up between the lights.
More later as I try to figure out if I'm missing them (which I doubt) or they are just almost impossible to see.  Which I'm guessing is the issue.
