Jim, that connector is toward the middle of the column, usually on the top...where ya can't see, or get to it. You may need to drop the column down a bit.

HERE'S a diagram that may help....the connector is circled in red, and the arrow is pointing to the general area of where it comes thru the column. I have an actual photo of the dang thing, but since I had to wipe the hard-drive on the 'puter, all of my pics are on a disc....I'll have to dig for it. Ouch

Joel, that sounds ominous.  I've pulled the 3-screw cover at the bottom and disconnected the two boltsthat look to hold of the column.  How much more do I need for the column to 'drop'.  Or is complete removal required?  Undid all the screws holding the piece around the tach and speedo, but there must be something else in there too.

Boy, this is turning into a can of screws quickly...

That should be enough...the column should drop at least a couple of inches from there. Did you remove the two bolts that go thru the firewall at the bottom of the column? There is a "flange" at the bottom of the column with two bolts that hold the bottom to the firewall. You'll need to remove those also, so there will be nothing but the rag joint, and the wiring to hold the column. It will drop down some, but it's not going to fall out or anything like that(unless you have the rag joint disconnected).

Hey Jim,  I had the same problem with my column.  I thought I had removed enough to get it to drop and I forgot to check at the firewall.  That should do the trick and yes anything that has to do with getting to the top side of the column stinks!

Thanks Guys.  But I think this is a nightmare.  Looks like wires hoses and A/C ducts to get out of the way.  And I've had a stiff neck for two weeks already.  I still can't see the bottom bolts.  AAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!WackoDead

I'll let you in on a little secret...shhh, don't tell anyone!  Right about the time I(my daughter too) started to get annoyed with trying to put the new ignition switch in, she says "why don't we put a push button start in"...I love that kid!  So I abandoned the switch and put in a push button start.  In the process I found a few things wired wrong and found that to be the problem anyway.

Try this mantra as well:

"I'm not paying $100 an hour to have someone else do this"
"I'm not paying $100 an hour to have someone else do this"
"I'm not paying $100 an hour to have someone else do this"
"I'm not paying $100 an hour to have someone else do this"

Here's the update.  Pinpointed the problem to a little button that sticks up from the turn signal switch.  Seems it should have a spring but mine is broken.  At least we found the problem at last.

Can the turn signal switch be removed/replaced without removing and disassembling the steering column?

By the way, trust no one on eBay who says their column for sale was remanufactured.  Mine apparently wasn't unless you count spray painting to match my interior as remanufacturing.
