Went to the local parts store to get a dimmer switch, the counter help says the vette has three switches in the steering column that needs to be replaced 1 for the dimmer  1 for the signal  1 for wipers. i noticed that Arts corvette supply has ONE switch that does all 3 functions,, so who is right?

On my '79, the wiper switch is on the dash, the dimmer switch is mounted to the lower end of the column and controled by a rod that is connected but seperate from the turn signal switch. The dimmer switch can be removed with out takin out the column.

This is a '77 only, "multi-function" switch. Pumps is correct on the actual dimmer switch being attatched to the lower end of the column. Fairly easy to replace. If the "stalk" portion of your turn sig/dimmer/wiper switch is OK, and your dimmer is not working, change the switch on the column.
What problems do you have?

There is a rod that runs back off a funny looking "L" shaped piece from the turn signal handle back on the column to the switch. It has to be placed PERFECTLY or else the brights won't work. Getting this all back together was one of the biggest PITA's I've done since I did the trailing arms.

I agree wid Jim on the pita part with the rod!!
Jody, look toward the lower part of the steering column, on the driver side, and you shoould be able to see the actual switch.(It helps to be a contortionist.) Once you locate the switch, pull on the turn sig. switch to activate the hi-beams. You should be able to see/hear the rod move. If the rod itself is not moving, you will have a problem in the upper part of the column. That's bad!! If you can see the rod moving, then the switch is either out of adjustment, or defective.
If someone has an assy. man for the '77, maybe they could post the pic of the page with this switch on it, and it will make more better sense.
