The windshield washer pump, in my 1975 coupe, gave up and I started shopping for a replacement.  All the great mail order suppliers had the pump for $26.00 plus shipping.  I found the exact replacement,in stock, at O'Reilly Auto Parts for $16.19.  The pump is made by ANCO and is part number 61-05.  The also do mail order.

Just a tip, hope it helps.

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

Are you sure it's an exact replacement?

Many of the "exact replacements" fit in place of the original, and look the same externally.  But in fact they have an electric pump instead of the mechanical OEM pump.

The OEM pump pulsed several times after hitting the wash button, then shut off.   The replacement electric sprays a continous stream only while the button is pressed.  To some this is fine, and would not bother me at all.  My car won't be a show piece.  It would bother some folks, and judges, if they knew.

You can also get a rebuild kit for them, and rebuild you original pump.(at least the 3 port pumps, anyway.) I did this on the '74 last year.

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.

Can anybody tell me where exactly this pump is located, and how to extract it?  Or at least where most w/s washer pumps are located?

Have had problems in the past, not with the Vette, but really have no clue where the pump is located in order to fix it or replace it, let alone take it out to inspect.

THanks in advance,

It's either on the wiper motor itself(mechanical), or on the bottom of the fluid reserviour(electrical). I can't remember when the change happened, from mech. to 'lect., but it was around '78, I think.
If your wiper motor has hoses on the pass. side of it, that is the mech. washer pump. If not, it is on the fluid bottle.

Ken,

Yes it works as you described as the factory original.  The pump looks exactly like the old one, except much nicer.

Thank you,

Leo

Mark,

My pump is located on the bottom of the fluid reservoir on my 75.   The Ecklers catalog gives the two types of pumps and the years they were used.  Evidently there was a cross over period around 75.

If your on the bottom of the reservoir, it is a bear to change if you have power brakes. The tank will not come out past the power brake booster.  I had to make the change out reaching down into the space the pump normally lives.  I said a few words that I was not proud of. It was well worth the effort to have a great working pump again.

Yea, I usually get frustrated and just remove the master cylinder for the room to work, but of course then you have brake bleeding issues.Oh Well ! All things can be over come.

I found this wiper motor in Advance for a '73 and it looks just like mine.. anyone else ever replaced a '73 assy or found parts? The only problem with mine is the cam in the middle for the washer is broken, but if I can get the whole thing (rebuilt) for under $60 .

Update... got the whole (rebuilt AC/Delco) assy with new washer pump, and all ready to bolt in for under $60 at Advance. Put it in and works fine. They had 2 pumps. A 1st prod and second prod. I believe mine was a first prod.  Only modification was to the shaft which I had to grind just a hair, and the threads were larger. Just put a larger nut on but it all fit fine on the wiper linkage.

Joel,

You have been very helpful on several posts and I wonder if you can help me on an unrelated item.  I cannot figure out how to get a picture of my '75 on my signature or in the registry.  I have been all over the site and cannot seem to figure it out. Can you help?

Thank you,

Leo
