Need some advise. When I attempted to use my windshield
wipers this weekend the "wiper overide" light went on(it
has remained on) the wiper door opens and closes correctly when I use the wiper switch, but the wipers themselves do not work ? The overide light remains on even when the ignition is off.(the headlamps work fine)

The black knob between the vacuum overrides for the wipers and headlights is the wiper override..turn it and see it that helps.
Matt,
Thanks for responding. I tried the black knob, and that
also raises and lowers the wiper door but the wipers still don't work and the "wiper overide" light remains lit. It
seems that even though the wiper door is opening the system
things that it is closed. Thanks again

On a 68 the override switch is chrome. It is located under the steering column and has two black tipped levers you pull down, one is for the headlamps and one is for the wiper. Make sure both are up and then turn the chrome knob and see what happens. Sounds like something is stuck. Also, check the wiper fuse. If the override light stays on, it will run down your battery, as that is what it says in the owners manual.

I had a problem too, only mine would just quit working, always in the rain, when esle would you have them on!
I tried a few things, and finally just replaced the motor, the whole thing, washer pump and all, and the switches in side. No problem now! A little expensive, but it sure beat going 60 MPH with rain-x and a prayer to get ya home.
Good luck. The motor was a "rebuilt", correct colors etc, not a remanufactured one. "68 motor is a little different than newre ones as I recall to. I sent he old one back as a core credit.
Good luck,
Ernie

I admit I'm no expert on the pesty wiper doors,I was going to install one on my mako just for the novelty of it, I gave up on that idea, but didn't I read that there is a switch out at the wiper door itself that prevents the wipers from working when the door is closed or not open all the way, sounds like this it out of adjustment,
Best wishes,
T.
