I hope someone can help me.
I bought this car not running and missing some stuff. I replaced the engine harness because it was a mess, but the engine did not have a carb solinoid, no solinoid for the vacume advance and no tcs temp switch. Is this thing going to run without all these things. It has a 454 with an automatic transmission and no air or power steering if that makes any differance. trying to keep it original. Found the correct Quadrajet and just had it rebuilt. any ideas. these solinoids are kind of pricy.
Thanks in advance.

The car will start and run without any of that stuff. I know what ya mean about the soleniod being pricey...I got a quote for a USED one for $250!! Then, I found one on a carb I already had in the barn!
You may have trouble with the idle speed if you have A/C, and don't have the solenoid, but you can idle it up with the screw, if needed.Adams' Apple 2007-07-19 21:02:45

I'm working on a '71 LS5 with M/T and A/C. I have the solenoid, and am trying to rebuild the TCS circuit, which is a little complex. (Relays, resistors, transmission grounding switches, coolent temp. switches, and the carburetor solenoid).
According to my Chassis Service Manual, the solenoid is part of a "Combination Emission Control System" or CES. If you can get a manual, it describes how the solenoid gives full vacuum advance to the distributor and a more open throttle plate position under different engine/transmission conditions. I can email you the text if you want, but the manual has schematics that I've not found anywhere else.
But Joel is right, it will work without all this stuff. Its just a question of how correct you want to be.
I would be great if you can E-Mail me anything helpfull. I'm getting close to firing this thing up.

Hey I am planning on replacing the engine harness also were do you disconnect the harness?. I see were it goes into the back firewall is that were I disconnect it from?
Yes, at the firewall. Two harnesses go through that connector. There is a screw that you unscrew in the center of each half that separates the harness connector from the firewall connector. I used M&H Electric in Santa Fe Springs, CA for my harness. www.wiringharness.com They did a good job.
