I have a 71 vette with later model aluminum wheels.  I'd like to replace with original 71 corvette rally wheels.  I know that there are numbers stamped into the wheel but how do I know if they are 71 corvette wheels?  Does any one have a listing with 15" stamping?  What should a 8" wheel measure from inside to inside bead?

thanks
Bob

Bob,

On the outside of the wheel near the valve stem should be stampings.

All rally wheels in '68 were stamped "AG" and were 15x7.

From 1969-1982 all rally wheels were 15x8 & stamped "AZ" near the valve stem.

To determine date correct wheels, you will have to check for additional stampings on both sides of the valve stem.

Depending on the date of manufacture of your car, the left side should be stamped K 1 0  or K 1 1.  Also on the left side should be a number from 1-12 which indicates the month of manufacture.

For example:  K 1 1    5 =

K = Kelsey Hayes, 1 = Romulus Plant, 1 = the year, 1971, & 5 = May 1971.

The second number can also be a 2 (Ontario) or a 3 (Philadelphia).

On the right side of the valve stem should be the from 1-31 to indicated day of the month that the wheel was made, followed by the "AZ" stamping.

For NCRS correct wheels, they should be date coded 2-3 weeks before the date the car was assembled & up to 6 months prior to the car's build date.  Otherwise, any "AZ" wheel that is true should work fine.

There are also stampings on the inside of the rim between the beads that will read 15x8  JJ along with the above type date stampings.

Good luck,

Anthony
