Vette(s): 1973 L-48 Coupe. Classic white with black leather interior.

Is there any advantage to running the "near original" sized 70 series tires versus the better handling 60 series tires?

I am planning on switching back to the original rims.  Tire considerations -  either 245 60R15 (x4) or 225 70R15 (x4).

Thanks,

Bret

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

You don't have the problem of possible rubbing.  And It will ride better with the 70s.

Thanks again Ken.  Your posting is really appreciated.

I was also thinking that being the car was designed with 70's, it would be easier on the suspension hardware.  I am interested in long  drives, so durability is a consideration.

70's it is.

Bret

Vette(s): 1969 Daytona Yellow Coupe - ZZ4/4 speed, Hurst shifter, Griffin aluminum radiator w/ Dual Spals, March Serpentine Pulley kit, Hookers with STS Racing Baffles, VB&P Suspension bits, 17" AR Hopsters, L-88 Hood
I had BF Goodrich Radial T/A 245/60/15's on the original rallys when I had my '70 and the car rode great with no rubbing at all.

Chevrolet didn't start making 60 series tires available on Vettes until '78, and opened up the fender wells for clearance. Not that earlier cars can't run with them, but there is a possibility of rubbing...that seems to be a car by car thing.

With the extra rubber on the ground with a 60 series, it takes extra steering wheel effort as well. My '78 with 60 series BFG's and power steering has about the same steering effort as my '69 big block without power steering and 70 series rubber.

Vette(s): 69 Conv #'s match 427, TKO-600/.64, 3.36HD-Posi, HT, T/T, PS, PB, PW, SP, Leather, Comp XE264HR & Roller Rockers & Lifters, Air-Gap RPM intake, Holley St Av 770 VS, MSD 6AL+Dist+Blaster SS, K&N, Jet-Hot Hooker Side-Pipes, Steeroids, Al Rad, Spal Fans

I personally have run 255/60/15 on both my c3's ive had..

I like the better handling of the 60..  the change in ride quality is insignificant.

225/70 and 255/60 are both 27" tires..  so the diameter is correct..  245/60 is a little short..
