77 Rear Stabilizer/Sway Bar

I notice my 77 does not have a rear stabilizer/sway bar on it.  From what I understand this is optional.  Please give me your thoughts on having or not having one on the car and what are the handling differences?  Thank you very much!Tongue

My 78 has the Gymkhanna package on it ,with front and rear sway bars,the front is inch and one eigth,the rear is small diameter seems awful small to me ,but it seems to workConfused

The rear bar can make the car a bit "twitchy" if it doesn't match the front, design-wise. The rear bars are normally smaller than the fronts, because the most weight is on the front, and that's the end sane people steer with.
You can add the stock sized rear bar, and probably be ok, but it may make the car want to understeer a bit. In order to combat that, you can go to a larger front bar, such as the factory sized bar they used with the F41/Gymkahana set-up. The stock rear bars were 9/16"...not all that big.
The stock front bar on my '74 is 3/4", and the fat blocks, Z07/FE7(gymkahana) set-ups used a 15/16" bar.
The later cars had to use a larger bar because they were fat, and overweight...Ron Adams' Apple2007-04-05 19:27:21

My 1st '78 doesn't have a rear antisway bar either. I thought Bubba had been there Stooges  until I heard from you. Thanks Joel

  Only the Cars that had the F-41 Gymkahana Suspension use a Rear Bar. OK Ok a Car with the Trailer Towing Package gets the F-41 and therefore the Bar as well. Most Modern Suspension Trends go with Big Bars and Soft Springs for the Best Handeling Balance and Ride. You would also want more Modern Tires to go with. Depends on what You intend to do with the Car I'd Change Both Bars with a Set from one of the Aftermarket Companys. Richard...
