say larry to get the gearbox out do you have to drop the steering wheel? I know it has two bolts on the side and then at the control valve
Frank, you didn't say if you have an auto trans or manual. On my '81 w/ 4 spd. I had to lift the steering box out by the alternator, otherwise you'd have to remove the clutch linkage to drop it out the bottom. May not be an issue with an auto trans.

There's a bolt going sideways through the upper rag joint collar, once that's loose, if you spray some penetrating oil on the shaft right there and help spread the collar open a little, the steering box should pull off the steering column without pulling the column back up inside the dash. The rag joint will stay with the steering box.

That works. I leave the rag joint on the column, and, once the box is unbolted from the frame, slide it down and off. If you buy a rebuilt or have yours rebuilt, you need to take the rag joint off the box anyway. And it is pretty easy to take apart the little bit of clutch linkage in the way if that seems easier than getting it out the top.

I'm with you Frank. Mine felt like close ratio compared to my wifes w/ auto tranny. But I'm sorry I don't know for certain.

I don't know that for sure, but it would make sense to me that it would be an option. Sorry.

All steering gear boxes from '63 to '82 had the same ratio, power or non. There was one change in 1968 (?), in the input spline, but otherwise it is the exact same part, power or manual.
