I have noticed that every 80-82 vette I see on the fourm has stock rims and tiresl  Does anyone use after market rims or tires. I want to get new rims. what is the largest rim I can use that will look sweet? I want to use low profile tires. I have a 80 vette, I like wide and low profile

frstvette,

I run 17's on mine.  They are large enough to get into the best tires for handling, yet still small enough to keep your wheel clearance within acceptable (no rubbing) limets.  I have 17 x 8 made by COYS out of utah.  He specifically builds wheels for C3 corvettes to prevent rubbing.  If you go with a 16 inch wheel you will find it very hard to get high performance tires.  Good luck with your search.

I also run 17" rims on my 78.  I have 8' on the front and 9" on the back. Both use 4 1/2" back spacing. There have never been any rubbing issues!
I went retro with Cragar SS. The style of the wheel is classic and the sizing of course is modern. Make a great combo. I wraped them in BF Goodrich G-Force TA KDWs. Awesome grip and handling! I am extremely pleased with the results! People seem to comment on the Cragars as much as anything on the car!

I can email some pics to you if you like! I never figured out how to post pics on this darn web site!

17" American Racing Torq-Thrust II's on my '77.  Wrapped them with Kumho Ecsta MX Tires.  After I did it, I wondered what took me so long to get rid of the stock wheels and tires!

What size rubber are you running on those 17's?

They are 255/45/17.  I think they are some pretty sweet tires too.  Grip the road very well.

'45' is not the width, it's the sidewall height.  I have 17x9 wheels on my Camaro and I run 275/40/17s.  17x8s would accept a 245-255 tire I believe, but you should check to be certain.

I have 17X8 TTII's on mine with 255/50ZR17 Kuhmo tires.  They fit well on the back, but rub some on hard turns in the front.  I probably should have put either 235 or 245's on the front.  I just have to be careful on sharp turns.
