Vette(s): 1976 L-48 Stingray Orange Flame with Black Interior
Does anyone have or know of a set of Alluminum wheels for a 76' ? I need to know if the center area of the wheel is painted black or if its just a black insert ring. I got a line on a set for my 76' but they are for a 79'- 82' and those are all aluminum looking. If its just black paint all I should be able to do is paint the center to give it that authentic look.
P.S. If its just paint is it a gloss or semi gloss?
Let me what you think people.
Thanks, Mike

Vette(s): 1979, 350sb, as my kids affectionately call it "shit brown" Corvette purchased in 1996. 84,000+ miles. Not a show car, but I love her just the same.
MIke:
My 79 has the black center on the wheels. I think they offered two sets of wheels as options for this year - full aluminum or black center. Anyway, I don't think the paint is either gloss or semigloss, but flat black that has then been covered with a protective coating along with the rest of the wheel.
This is just my guess, but I'm sure others will be able to let you know more.

I'm trying to remember what the black area looked like before I repainted mine. I'd probably agree with Mark and say it was flat black. Most of mine was scratched off. I polished up the wheels and painted the center gloss black. They came out looking very nice. Here are two links to pics.. a before and after shot.

Vette(s): Re-acquired 1982 Bright Blue Vette from the guy a sold it to 13 years ago. 1993 40th Anniv. Ruby Convertible- purchased for my wifes 40th birthday-It has Chromed Grand Sport Wheels, Grand Sport Flares and a functional rollbar.
Seems like I read somewhere that the centers were black through 79 and the 80-82 wheels were polished. Unless you're trying to stay original do what you think looks best.

The original color was semi black centers with black plastic center hubs that fall off constantly. The wheels are non polished aluminum, clear coated that leak air through the bad castings due to poor quality workmanship.

The center section of the 76 was painted black. Flat black or semi gloss would I believe both be shiney after clear coating. Chuck

The center is black. The aluminum rims were optional for 76 standard on 77. As for the center hubs use silicone to keep them on the rim better. This way when you need to removew them there will ont be a problem.
