I was doing a little tuning last night while I'm waiting on Interior stuff to arrive, and it's running real well and the idle is good and I get in and step on the brake and it tries to die. I'm thinking vacume leak in the booster maybe? This thing sat in a guy's garage I don't know how long before I got it. Is there something I can check before pulling this thing off. I can't hear any thing leaking around the booster.
Thanks
Lonnie
P.S. Hope everyone had a fun and safe trip to Hot Springs, enjoying everyones pic's. Thanks

Boosters seldom fail, but stranger things have happened. First place I would check is the connection of the line at the base of the carb. Could be a leak there. Anything T-ed into the vacuum line? Brake vacuum lines should not have anything "borrowing" vacuum.

I just had that happen to my '97 Blazer. If you got on the brakes enough to stop, it would kill the engine. Needed a new booster. Replaced the master at the same time.

Lonnie, are you losing fluid from the master you cannot account for? Specically the back bowl. If it sat for a long time, the seal from the master may have gone bad.
First I would make sure that the check valve is working correctly at the booster.

The diaphragm in the booster most likely has a split in it, causing the engine to run rough/die when you mash the pedal. Check the check-valve first, of course, but the problem is most likely the booster, and it will need to be replaced/rebuilt.

Just wait for all the fun it is to remove the booster. You cannot imagine how difficult it is to get to the four nuts. Swearing is definitely permitted here. You head and neck will never be the same again. Have fun...............

I agree with the pain in the neck, back and most everywhere else. "Take the seat out." The four bolts are not too bad however the PIN and CLIP will make you say very bad words----right 71Shark & DNV!!!!! fireboss 2008-04-23 12:32:02
Well luckily the whole dash is out right now. Waiting on new dash pads. The only thing in the car is the new carpet. I haven't lost any fluid, and the whole brake system is new except the booster of course, isn't that Murphy's Law or something like that. I'll check the hose first and then proceed with removal I guess. Gee I needed somthin to do on the car this weekend so maybe I can get out of some honeydews.
Thanks Guy's I'll let you know how it turns out.

Yup. Factory installation of that clip actually scores the pin. It is never meant to come off. AIM page for the installation even mentions something about how deep the score should be when the clip is correctly installed. PITA.

Pack a lunch when replacing that clip, though it might not be as bad with the dash out. BTW, when is your projected complete date? We want to put together another regional get together for KS, OK and TX.
Bad Booster could be also called a Ball B
