Now that the first snow storm of the season is upon us, I was wondering the best snow tire for my C3. Firestone has a decent tread design but the salesman wants me to put P295/80R15 on all four wheels. I'm thinking these are a bit too wide and will throw snow and salt all over the fenders. My next choice were BFG Mudders but they don't have those little holes where you can put in studs. The weatherman is saying its gonna be icy so studs are a necessity. Any recommendations... |headscratch|

It might be hard to find anyone that drives their C3 in the snow. I have actually met C3 owners this summer that won't even drive theirs in the rain! I have found that the C3 is a great car to drive on dry roads but about the worst car to drive in the winter. I am just curious, have you driven it in the winter before? If so what is your opinion of the way it handles and how is the traction? |headscratch| |thumb|

I was talking to a guy down in New Jersey this summer he said he takes his vette out in the snow every winter, with snow tires on it.With posi he has no traction problems, the problem he does have is scooping up snow and slush with the air dam under the front bumper, which piles the snow up into the radiater, and causes overheating problems. He said he gets a lot of looks from people when hes out in the snow with his vette,I told him I couldn"t imagine why. |laugh| |eek| |saluteflag| |withstupid|

Unless its your only car and you have to take it out in the snow,DONT do it.those big tires will tear up your paint, throwing salt and sand up on your fenders, plus packing all that junk up into the frame in front of the rear wheels, which is a rust prone area as it is.leave your baby in the garage ,buy a cheap winter beater and drive it to work .save the vette for nice weather |thumb| |saluteflag| |withstupid|

for snow tires you want to go skinny 225 70 15 is pretty good. If you dont belive me on skinny snow tires look at the rally racers tires when they are racing in snow. You want as much weight on one point as possible to get the best traction. If there wide tires then all the weight is spread out accros the tire and you actully loose traction.

Come mon guys! I was just jokin'. 'BFG Mudders ' !!! I try to avoid the rain in the summertime. Even with new tires the white princess doesn't seem to like wet roads. I could just imagine how it would handle in the snow... YIKES !!! |eek|

My 78 doesn't go out in the rain either, unless I am out on a cruise or something and a storm hits,we came home from a downtown cruise one night and got caught in the rain, and she says isnt this illegal, won't the Corvette police come home and arrest you or something? with a big grin on her face |confusing| |no-no| Ive got a 2 car garage the vette sits on the right side, where my cutlass wagon used to sit .now the cutlass sits out in the snow,I had to work on the wagon today,so I parked my wifes cutlass out in the snow and used her spot in the garage. That got me some dirty looks, whats the matter is your BABY togood to be out in the snow,,YEAH |laugh| |thumb| |wavey|

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!
When I worked at a Chevrolet dealer in the late 70's we had a Doctor and his wife come in to buy a Corvette for a winter car for the wife. She did not want to drive the Ferreri in the snow. They figured the Posi and fiberglass body would be perfect. The doc himself was going to contine to drive his Mercedes, snow or not.

A fine case of more money then sense.
