Topic: booster
in Forum: C3 Engines, Driveline and Handling
Hey guys,
My dad and I are really workin on the car today, we also expect to paint the eng compartment today. Anyway, my real big question is that: We noticed the power brake cylinder was leaking, and the booster seems to be ok. However the car hasn't really been driven for awhile even witht he previous owner, it has been sitting. If the cylinder is leaking, I expect the booster will when I realyl start driving it. Also I would really like to go to an all chrome booster/cylinder. I mean this car want it to look hella bad @$$. I am even putting in digital guages in the later time. I would liek to know if other than takign apart the driver side guages if there is any other way of getting that booster out of there. Thanks guys,
-Louis

The booster won't leak fluid. With the leak you have, you need to rebuild the master cylinder, or replace it. Ignoring this could cause a serious brake problem in the future.
As far as removing the booster to chrome, If you can become a human pretzel, you can leave the gauges in place. Very difficult. Remember, you will need to disassemble the booster to have the crome work done, unless you use a power coat or settle for a chrome like paint.

Hey guys,
I know you guys are right and its the cylinder, and not the booster. But you know I've spent almost 7,000 on that engine, and I'ts gonna have some serious chevy ponies, and look bad @$$ at the same time. I know it is a lot of work to change that booster because of the dash situation. But I must take it apart anyway. I need to replace the speedo-cable anyway, the one we have is coroded, and ripped in multiple locations. It doen't even tell the speed correctly. As I understand that a job thats going to piss you off anyway. Also I wnated to put digital guages in (thats a lot of money) what does everyone think of that. But I mean since I have to change the speedo-cable, and I want to put digital guages in, and the dash pad needs to be changed (its cracked) I fugured why the hell not? I mean look at this:
After all that work, and looks dont you think that this:
Would look good sitting beside it? This is my first restoration, but I wnat it to be a kick-@$$ one. Something I can really show off, a real head-turner.
Thanks guys,
-Louis

No, No Ken. I wasn't trying to force a point. If anything I value your opinions, and facts. We're all members of the forums, and we are all in a way a giant C3 family. I was just trying to simply say that in the majority of your answers you guys are right. But lets face it, the car has been in the rest-faze for a year now. I can shill out a few more hundred and really make a kick @$$ car show with gleam, and shine. I am really excited about this. Truth is I really can't afford it. I I buy this, then its all down hill. I only have neough left for the exhaust. Really there are only a few things left:
Paint - $2,500
Tires: $550
Wheels = $800
Console Side trim: $54.99/Pair
Exhaust: $550
Side-View Mirrors: $99
Part # 34117
1970-78 Black Seat Back : $35.99 I only need 1
The Vynl spray paint for a small part in the driver's seat (very noticable) $16.99
Speakers - $60 for a good 2-way set of Rockford Fosgate's
And a gas tank issue in which I am totally lost. Look for my post!)
I have also decided not to mess with digital guages, I don;t want to take away from the interiors 'natural look' plus it was like $2K for all the guages, and sending units.
Thanks again guys,
-Louis

The engine is looking good, man!

The booster really is a pain to get out & in, but I've found if you take the driver's seat out, it gives you a lot more room to get stuck in!

Louis, I know you were not forcing anything. Sorry if I seemed to take it that way. I just want you to have what you want. Just like everyone here. And if you can do it, I'm for it.
Maybe you will want to visit the gauge idea again later. Some of the digital packages really look great in a C3. I have seen a few i really like. Luckly, I like the OEM a lot as well. I can't afford the digital LOL.
You are really doing nice things with that car. Turning out very nice. Keep going man
