Well Gilbert buddy your guna have to make a few choices......have you heard the saying on here that goes sumtin like dis...............while your in there.....
First nothin trick with the brake job compared to another car.....except the rear parking brake. Chip (crossfire) just did his last week and I'm sure he will add to this thread.
You can rebuild calipers yourself or put on remans or new.
I for sure would spend the money and go stainless and switch over to silicone fluid.
So you will see lots of "Kits" out there to do a complete change over, or one at a time.
For sure change out pads if they got wet, I tried to skip that part once as they were like brand new.
Not soooo good..............like ya said Stopping is a good thing.
Let us know how it progresses.......or just fly Chip out to California and he'll do it for you.
Wait a second What the H E double LL am I thinkin?? it's like 6 degrees out as I post this.....fly me out I'll do it!

How long do you want to come for I have frequent flier miles. Of course we have to do the Tom Sawyer kind of thing you would have to pay me for the privilege of working on a C3 in the winter when it is 70 degrees outside.
By the way how do you guys make it in the I just got in from Florida it was 33 degrees in Pensacola at 2PM when I left yesterday.

While you are replacing the calipers Id for sure replace the flexible
lines that go to them unless you know they have been replaced in the
past. New flex hoses are only about $10 each unless you go with
stainless braided which are a bit more. Dont forget new crush
washers on the front calipers. Most of the guys I know have gone with the
stainless steel lined "O" ring calipers which may cause less "air
pumping" but some still prefer the original lip seals. I just checked
at www.riksvet.com (one of our supporting vendors) and rebuilt SS lined
"O" ring calipers are about $100. Rebuilt stainless steel lined lip seal
calipers are about $70. Biggest difference is that the vette calipers will have 4 pistons.

If I can rebuild calipers anyone can. But going with new or reman-ed calipers (with a warranty) is a lot less messy and saves a bunch of time. Swapping them out is very straight forward (it will probably take you longer to jack the car up and set the jack stands). Also, using a pressure bleeder will speed up the whole process when you have everything put back together.
Good advice given on replacing the pads and flexible lines. Wouldn't hurt to spray both sides the rotors with some brake cleaner while you have things apart.Norsky 2010-01-09 20:59:34
