When swapping out the master cylinder I've read that it should be bench bled first before bolting it in place.

If a power bleeder is used to bleed the system is it still necessary to bench bleed the M/C before installing it?

YES...a pressure bleeder won't actually be able to bleed the master itself very well. The master needs to be airless first, so bench-bleed it. Unless, of course, you happen to have all the time in the world to fool with bleeding yer brakes...

I bench bled mine because I figured the fluid wouldn't get around the seals on the piston unless it was moved.
